Terms of Service

Note for the operator: this document is a starting scaffold. Before opening the product to paying customers, review it with qualified legal counsel and update for your specific business model, jurisdiction, and risk profile.

1. Acceptance

By creating an account, accessing, or using alterego (the "Service"), provided by alterego ("we", "us", or "our"), you agree to these Terms of Service ("Terms"). If you do not agree, do not use the Service.

2. Description of the Service

alterego is a social discovery and response platform that monitors third-party social platforms (including but not limited to Reddit, Hacker News, and Bluesky), analyzes posts matching configured criteria, and generates suggested reply drafts for human review and approval. The Service does not autonomously post on your behalf without explicit human approval per draft.

3. Account registration

You must provide accurate information and keep it current. You are responsible for maintaining the confidentiality of your account credentials and for all activities under your account. Notify us immediately at alterego.intlabs@gmail.com of any unauthorized use.

4. Acceptable use

You agree not to use the Service to:

  • Violate any law or third-party terms of service (including those of Reddit, Hacker News, Bluesky, or any other connected platform).
  • Send spam, mass-unsolicited messages, or engage in deceptive astroturfing.
  • Impersonate any person or entity, including by misrepresenting affiliation.
  • Submit content that is unlawful, harassing, defamatory, infringing, or otherwise objectionable.
  • Reverse-engineer, scrape, or attempt to extract source code or model weights from the Service.
  • Resell or sublicense access to the Service without our written agreement.

We may suspend or terminate accounts that violate these terms, with or without notice, at our sole discretion.

5. Subscription, billing, and refunds

Paid plans are billed monthly or annually in advance via Stripe. By providing payment information you authorize us to charge the applicable fees through the billing cycle until you cancel. Cancellations take effect at the end of the current billing period; service remains available until then.

Annual subscriptions: we offer a pro-rated refund if you cancel within 30 days of the initial annual charge. After 30 days, annual subscriptions are non-refundable for the remainder of the paid term. Monthly subscriptions are non-refundable for the current month.

We may change prices on notice; price changes take effect at your next billing cycle. Continued use after notice constitutes acceptance.

6. Content and AI-generated drafts

The Service generates suggested reply drafts based on the public content of third-party posts and the configuration you provide (product description, keywords, voice profile, etc.). You are solely responsible for reviewing, editing, and choosing whether to publish any draft. We make no warranty as to the accuracy, suitability, or legal compliance of generated drafts.

You retain ownership of the content you input. You grant us a limited license to process that content as required to provide the Service, including via alterego's proprietary trained models and approaches.

7. Third-party services and content

The Service relies on third-party platforms and providers including but not limited to: Reddit, Hacker News, Bluesky, Google, Stripe, Railway. Their availability, rate limits, and terms are outside our control. We are not liable for outages or behavior changes by third parties.

8. Intellectual property

The Service, including its software, design, and documentation, is owned by alterego and protected by intellectual property law. Subject to these Terms, we grant you a non-exclusive, non-transferable, revocable license to access and use the Service for your internal business purposes.

9. Disclaimers

THE SERVICE IS PROVIDED "AS IS" AND "AS AVAILABLE" WITHOUT WARRANTIES OF ANY KIND, EXPRESS OR IMPLIED, INCLUDING WARRANTIES OF MERCHANTABILITY, FITNESS FOR A PARTICULAR PURPOSE, NON-INFRINGEMENT, OR ACCURACY OF AI-GENERATED OUTPUT. YOUR USE OF THE SERVICE IS AT YOUR SOLE RISK.

10. Limitation of liability

TO THE FULLEST EXTENT PERMITTED BY LAW, alterego AND ITS OFFICERS, EMPLOYEES, AND AGENTS WILL NOT BE LIABLE FOR ANY INDIRECT, INCIDENTAL, CONSEQUENTIAL, SPECIAL, OR PUNITIVE DAMAGES, INCLUDING LOST PROFITS, ARISING OUT OF OR RELATED TO THE SERVICE. OUR AGGREGATE LIABILITY FOR ANY CLAIM ARISING OUT OF OR RELATED TO THE SERVICE WILL NOT EXCEED THE AMOUNT YOU PAID US IN THE TWELVE MONTHS PRECEDING THE CLAIM.

11. Indemnification

You agree to indemnify and hold harmless alterego from any third-party claim arising out of your use of the Service, your content, or your violation of these Terms.

12. Termination

You may cancel your subscription and delete your account at any time via the settings page. We may suspend or terminate access at our discretion for violation of these Terms, non-payment, or legal requirement. On termination, your right to use the Service ends; sections of these Terms that by their nature survive termination (intellectual property, disclaimers, limitation of liability, governing law) continue to apply.

13. Governing law

These Terms are governed by the laws of Delaware, USA, without regard to conflict-of-law rules. Any dispute will be resolved exclusively in the state or federal courts located in Delaware, USA, and you consent to the personal jurisdiction of those courts.

14. Changes to these Terms

We may update these Terms from time to time. The "Effective" date above reflects the most recent revision. We will notify you of material changes by email or in-product notice. Continued use after the effective date of revised Terms constitutes acceptance.
